Extraordinary & Unused Wilkinson ‘Fully Etched & Blued’ Third Pattern F-S Fighting Knife

Experienced collectors know that one of the rarest of all original WWII Wilkinson F-S Knives is the ‘fully etched’ Third Pattern. Surprisingly much rarer than even the First Pattern F-S, as a consequence and much to the frustrations of collectors looking to add the big three Wilkies to their treasures - the fully etched Wilkinson Third, especially those with etchings ‘and’ blued blades are incredibly elusive.

This extraordinary example is near flawless and unused. This incredibly rare example is one of the finest known to exist. The beautiful hand-ground blade is full length at 6 3/4”, retaining most of it’s original high polish blued finish and both etching panels, as good as the day they were applied. No sharpening marks and no signs of use, just some very minor loss of finish towards the tip of the blade. The hilt is solid, original and with no issues. Of course NO import stamp on either the knife or scabbard. The pommel nut is original and untouched, the cast grip mould number is ‘1’. The scabbard is complete and near perfect, retaining both of its wings and elastic retaining strap. The rear of the frog does have some identifying marks scratched into it. It cannot be over stated how rare this knife is in such fabulous condition. The fabulous blued blade, long WS etching, blind/spigot nut and Wilkinson’s ‘W’ stamp for waxed/waterproof only adds to it’s rarity and desirability. Any original Wilkinson Third Pattern that is fully etched is a true rarity ‘but’ to find one is such exceptional and beautiful condition, is almost unheard of.
