Wartime Production Third Pattern F-S With 1964 Admiralty FR Code And Correct Scabbard
A very rare and pristine/unused late-war Third Pattern which remained ‘in-stores’ at the end of WWII. Subsequently being re-marked with the Admiraltie’s new FR stores codes in 1964. In 1964 the Admiralty introduced a new stores coding system and FR693 & FR271 were allocated to the fighting knife & scabbard respectfully. Although newly contracted knives were sourced older WWII production knives that had remaining unissued and in stores from wartime production were also marked up with the new codes, these historic F-S Knives are now very rare indeed - this is one of those knives.
In wonderful condition and correct in every respect. This late-war production Third Pattern F-S has pristine and totally unused/unsharpened full length blade of 6 7/8”, with a perfect tip, no sharpening marks and retaining 100% of it’s original blueing. The hilt is solid and retains almost all of it’s original dark finish, just some slight softening due to storage & handling. The pommel nut is original and untouched. The wartime cast mould grip number is ‘4’. Just below this is the 1964 Admiralty code of FR693. Of course ‘no’ import stamp on this knife, as would be correct. The scabbard is complete, the elastic retaining strap now at fault due to age. Correctly stamped to the rear FR271. A very rare F-S with fascinating history and completely correct and original in every respect.
