Important Wilkinson Ex Pattern Room Collection 1964 ‘FR’ Contract F-S Knife

In 2005 Wilkinson Sword closed down the knife side of their business. At that time much of the remaining items in their pattern room reference collection came to Robert Wilkinson-Latham, who’s grandfather had been responsible for the original F-S production during the Second World War. Robert - a dear friend and sadly no longer with us - would eventually ask me to sell his personal collection which included the knife you see here.

As required Wilkinsons continued to supply Fighting Knives for military contracts in the post-war years, one such contract was from the Admiralty, the Commandos now being absorbed fully into the Royal Navy. The contract was for 150 knives and to be marked with the new coding system, the knife carrying the code FR693 and the scabbard FR271. Other companies supplied knives for this contract and knives from WWII production that remained ‘in-stores’ were also retro marked up with the new codes. However examples from the original Wilkinson contract are excessively scarce. This unused example is the exact knife that Wilkinson retaining for their pattern room reference collection and is the exact knife owned by Robert Wilkinson-Latham and was featured in his book on page 91.

This IS the exact knife retained by Wilkinson Sword for their reference collection, retained by Robert Wilkinson-Latham after the closing of Wilkinsons in 2005, eventually coming to me, subsequently being sold by me in 2012.

This unique knife remains in unused condition, complete with it’s original scabbard and showing only handling and storage wear. Robert shared with me a scans of the original order document, shown at right. The full scan will be shared with the new owner.
