Fine Wilkinson Private Purchase Scroll Etched Second Pattern F-S Fighting Knife

A really splendid example of the Wilkinson ‘private purchase’ Second Pattern F-S with interesting owners name, research project? During WWII serviceman could visit Wilkinson’s store in Pall Mall London and purchase an F-S direct from the maker, for an added cost, one could have personal details etched on the blade. This was a very popular option for US personal stationed in and around London during the build up for D-Day. This is a lovely original example with a very unusual name within a scroll ‘PASQUALE DI LORENZO’. The knife appears mostly unused, a tiny piece of the tip of the blade has been lost and re-shapened, so now shows a length of 6 3/4”. Some age/water staining, mostly confined to one side of the blade and possible could be polished out but I prefer to leave as is. All etchings are clear and strong. A solid hilt, retaining most of it’s original finish and an original and intact pommel nut. Complete with it’s original and correct scabbard, now missing the elastic retaining strap and frog backing. Overall, a really splendid and interesting example of a classic private purchase Wilkie.
